1. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Facilitate cost-effective and sustainable agroforestry support services to the people living in the project area to increase success and value addition opportunities for beneficiaries’ improved nutritional and income levels. Participate in long-term planning to increase farmer outputs and their formation of farmer Apex Organizations (C.B.O’s, Associations & Cooperations).
2. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
R1. Agribusiness Development
T.1 Undertake participatory assessments to identify the stage of individuals and groups vis-à-vis their various agroforestry activities; and liase with the supervisor to map out training for various cohorts.
T.2 Participate in organizing, coordinating and co-facilitating agroforestry trainings for individuals/groups in the grant. Participate in review of value-added chains and in identifying relevant products/services for individuals/groups in the grant for enhanced income and growth.
T.3 Liase with the grant’s staff for relevant technical training that will grow and enhance production and supply into value chains. (E.g Bee keeping, Poultry, Moringa, Goats milk, horticulture, grains, etc)
T.4 Carry out needs Assessments for various groups and households and together, come up with a way forward to bridge the identified gaps.
T.5 Facilitate Focused Group Discussions with beneficiaries and facilitate the formation of democratic and transparent apex organizations.
T.6 Follow up on the already formed organizations to advice on their management to ensure sustainability.
T.7 Participate in the organization’s beekeeping activities and value addition processes.
T.8 Assist in ensuring that the demonstration plots at the project site and in the schools are in a presentable state and serve as an example of what should be practiced in the community.
T.9 Take part in the implementation of sustainable Agriculture and land management practices both within the organization’s Demo farm and the community.
T.10 Assist in carrying out Curriculum Development and training for the organization’s students undertaking sustainable organic Agriculture whenever called to.
R3. Internal Administration
T.1 Maintain documentation of individuals and groups involved in income generating activities.
T.2 Provide quality and timely delivery of all grant reports, in their agreed format and deadlines.
T.3 Develop monthly progress reports to the grant’s coordinator according to the approved formats.
T.4 Engage in follow-up of referrals to ensure efficient processes and support supervision.
T.5 Maintain and keep up to date and accurate field records and reports of activities and beneficiaries according to the organization’s M&E and reporting requirements.
T.6 Ensure the integrity of information collected and presented is not compromised in any way whatsoever.
R4. Other Duties and Responsibilities
T.1 Perform any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by the Supervisor and management from time to time and which are related to the achievement of the organization’s mission and vision.
T.2 Actively participate in the Saturday Psycho-Social Support Program for Orphaned and Vulnerable Children and build the community’s capacity to eventually run the Saturday PSS on their own.
3. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (The knowledge, skills and abilities may be required through a combination of formal schooling, self-education and prior experience or on-the-job-training).
a) Level of education:
At least a Diploma in Agriculture from a reputable institution
b) Specialized Training/Professional Qualifications
Agri-business training desired and knowledge in Agro-forestry is an added advantage
c) Other competencies:
o Requires good interpersonal skills with ability to build personal relationships with beneficiaries, Local Community Members, students and staff.
o Must have developed good intercultural orientation and strong public relations skills.
o Should possess strong communication, negotiation and administration skills.
o Must have a valid Motorbike license and be able to ride the motorbike.
d) Job experience:
At least three (3) years’ experience in a similar position
